Bio:
James Ward Ferrill enlisted in the Confederate States Army in Co. F, 11th Infantry, on February 22, 1862, at Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas for a period of 12 months. He was born July 9, 1840 near Paris, in Lamar County, Texas. He is the grandson of an early settler in Lamar County. J. W. Ferrill married Mary Jane Phifer, born in Robertson County (now Limestone County). Mary Jane Phifer Ferrill was the daughter of an original settler in Limestone County, born August 18, 1842. Together they had six children when she died in childbirth on February 7, 1873. James Ward Ferrill died June 20, 1906 in Limestone County and is buried in Hogan Cemetery adjacent to his mother and his second wife.
