Bio:
Titus Payne was a Seminole Negro Indian Scout who was born in Florida. He had black eyes, black hair, and a black complexion. He stood 5’8”. He was 40 when he first enlisted.
He completed 2 enlistments, serving from October 7, 1871 to October 14, 1872. He served under Major Bliss and Captain Beyer. He was stationed at Fort Duncan and Fort Clark.
He was assassinated on May 19, 1876 on the Fort Clark Military Reservation. He was in the company of John Horse who was wounded in four places on the same occasion.
