Bio:

John Shields was a Seminole Negro Indian Scout who was born in Texas. He had black eyes, black hair, and a black complexion. He stood 5’7”. He was 22 when he first enlisted.

He completed six enlistments, serving from September 8, 1894 to September 30, 1914. He served under Lt. Thompson, Lt. Dupray, Lt. Spilor, Cpt. Babcock, Lt. Barney, and Maj. Rick. He was stationed at Ft. Clark and Cp. Eagle Pass.

John Shields was honorably discharged on September 30, 1914. He died on April 10, 1928 and was buried at the Seminole Indian Scouts Cemetery.
