Family: Ben is the son of Claud Elisha Brooks and Fannie Mae Starling. In October 1946, Ben and June were married. They had two daughters, Claudia and Rebecca; and one son William.

Military: Ben served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy during WWII. During the war, Brooks was a navigator. Then, he continued his service in the US Naval Reserve from 1943-1956.
Civilian: After graduating high school in Grapevine, Mr. Brooks continued his education at North Texas State Teacher College, earning a B.S. degree. Mr. Brooks worked in the gas & oil industry and was an independent landman. Ben was an active community member in Texas and Oklahoma, where he served on the school board, YMCA boards, Masons, Shrine Club, and numerous professional associations.
