Bio:

Hardie Factor was a Seminole Negro Indian Scout who was born in Florida. He had black eyes, black hair, and a black complexion. He stood 5’9”. His Seminole name was Yah Ha Las Lo Nocky. He first enlisted at age 64.

He completed five enlistments, serving from August 16, 1870 to May 27, 1880. He was stationed at Fort Duncan and Fort Clark and served under Maj. Bliss and Lt. Bullis.

Hardie was another Factor who had formerly been enslaved by Nelly Factor. He was one of two scouts from Florida who were known to have attained Seminole warrior status, as evidenced by his Seminole name.

He was one of 20 chosen by Maj. Bliss as most fit for service as a scout. In the 1880 census, his wife Esther was listed as being 60 years old and his son Hardy was 12. Hardy would later
