Bio:
We are honoring Private Gregorio Frausto today. He was a Seminole Negro Indian Scout who was born in Mexico. He had black eyes, black hair, and a black complexion. He was 5’7”. He first enlisted when he was 25.
He completed 6 enlistments, serving from March 3, 1878 to August 31, 1884, and he served under Lt. Bullis, Lt. Jones, and Lt. Guard.
In the 1880 census, his wife Jausua was 20. They had a daughter named Leventha, who was 8, and a son named Beto, who was 1.
In August 19, 1941, he was reported to be living in Del Rio, TX. He would have been the last of the old scouts. He was buried in San Felipe Cemetery (thank you, Ms. Edna Rodriguez), Del Rio, TX.
There is a street named for him and his family in Del Rio.
Also: for anyone doing genealogy, sometimes, the R is removed, so their last name is spelled Fausto.
