Bio:
Caesar Payne was a Seminole Negro Indian Scout who was born in Florida. He had black eyes, black hair, and a black complexion. He stood 5’10”. He first enlisted when he was 46.
He completed 8 enlistments, serving from October 4, 1871 to April 23, 1879. He served under Maj. Bliss, Cpt. Beyer, Lt. Land, Lt. Cranston, Lt. Parker, and Lt. Bullis. He was stationed at Ft. Duncan, Ft. Clark, and Cp. Painted.
Caesar Payne was probably a descendant of enslaved people who belonged to Seminole Head-Chief King Payne, from whom Seminole Head-Chief Micanopy inherited most of the people he enslaved.
On September 15, 1876, Daniel Johnson was restrained from shooting Caesar Payne.
On October 15, 1876, Caesar Payne was arrested by Sheriff Cowell as an accessory to the theft of 5 horses from McKee’s pasture with Scott Warrior.
