Bio:
Robert Payne was a Seminole Negro Indian Scout who was born in Mexico. He had black eyes, black hair, and a black complexion. He stood 5’8”. He first enlisted when he was 16.
He completed 17 enlistments, serving from November 26, 1873 to March 31, 1874. He served under Lt. Bullis, Lt. Markley, Lt. Jones, Lt. French, Lt. Cunningham, Lt. Lowe, Lt. Evans, Lt. Shanks, Lt. Vestal, and Lt. Hardin. He was stationed at Ft. Duncan, Ft. Clark, Cp. Supply, Cp. Brazos, Cp Painted, Cp. Myers, Cp. Neville, Ft. Ringold, Cp. Palafox, and Cp. Presidio. He died on March 31, 1894, and it is believed he was buried at Ft. Ringold.
On May 31, 1879, he received a general court marshal. He was dishonorably discharged. But he was reinstated on May 15, 1882.
