Bio:
Merrick Thompson was a Seminole Negro Indian Scout who was born in Mobile, Alabama. He had black eyes, black hair, and a black complexion. He stood 5’5”. He was approximately 47 when he first enlisted.
He completed 3 enlistments, serving from August 2, 1872 to July 8, 1874. He served under Cpt. Beyer and Lt. Bullis. He was stationed at Fort Duncan.
Note: Merrick was probably formerly enslaved by a Cherokee. A few Black Cherokees, along with a few Creeks, left Indian Territory with the Black Seminoles.
