Bio:

LTC. James Wheeler served two tours in Vietnam earning four Bronze Stars, four Purple Hearts and the Army Soldiers Medal. Colonel Wheeler was born in Nashville, Tennessee and raised in Memphis during the time of Elvis. He attended Memphis State University on an athletic scholarship and has a master's degree in Management.
He served 21 years in the Army, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His tours of duty took him to multiple posting in the continental United States, Alaska, France, and two tours of duty in Vietnam where he served as a rifle platoon leader, and a rifle company commander.
He has been married to his wife Claudia for 54 years. They have three children and eight grandchildren. Following his military career Colonel Wheeler worked in the field of Banking and retired as a Vice President. He served as the Denton County Veterans Service Officer for 10 years.
Retiring from Denton County he assumed the position of Vice President and Director of Veterans Outreach for Valor Health Care, INC. Over a four-year period he was instrumental in the building of 22 Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) throughout the United States. In 2011 Jim received an offer he could not refuse, to continue to serve Veterans as a Veterans Advocate with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
He served most recently as the VA North Texas Health Care System Consumer Affairs Officer. He retired from the North Texas Health Care System in 2017.Colonel Wheeler’s decorations include The Soldiers Medal, The Bronze Star Medal for Valor with three oak leaf clusters, and four awards of the Purple Heart Medal, among others. He was inducted into the OCS Hall of Fame at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
