Bio:

I was born in El Paso, Texas.

I joined the US Marine Corps in 1967 and went to Paris Island, SC for Boot Camp. Afterwards I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, as Military Operational Specialty (MOS) 0161 Post Clerk. As a PFC, I sorted mail and mail that was deferred to the post office as deceased, illegible, transferred, etc. and tried to find where that piece of mail goes.

In 1968, I was transferred to Camp Futenma, in Okinawa where I also sorted mail to different platoons. I also had a postage stamp machine to sell stamps for packages to send to the States. Some packages were so big that we had to put them in big gunny sacks. We took in a lot of stereos and fragile china dishware that needed to be mailed to the States, so I loaded up the 2½ ton truck and drove it to Camp Naha. Next on the list of duties was to unload the truck, load it up again with Camp Futenma’s mail, and drive back to base where we would sort out the mail and then start the process all over again. I got out in 1969 as a corporal.
