Thomas Andrew Patterson was the son of Andrew Patterson and Mary Taylor, and he was born in Mississippi. He volunteered with the Mississippi Light Artillery which was organized during the late summer of 1862. It was disbanded at the end of the war. Thomas married Mary Helen E Renfro on 31 August 1865 in Carthage, Leake, Mississippi. They had at least 10 children.
