Bio:
Mugg Pawless was born August 20, 1923 in Cooke County, Texas at his parent's farm in the Rosston, TX area.. Died Jan. 9, 2022, at his farm east of Gainesville, TX at the age of 98,
Enlisted at age 19.
Induction Date Jan 27, 1943; PFC US Army Company C 146th Engineers C Battalion. Prior to combat duty, Mugg worked in Barnstaple, England at Saunton Sands where the 146th built the Attack Training Center for troops to prepare for the invasion. Combat included Omaha Beach Normandy, ST Lo, Paris, Belgium, Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Rhineland, Infantry division in defense of Vossenack and driving out the enemy, infantry reinforced 2nd battalion, 112th Regiment, 28th Infantry.. Towards the end, Mugg was sent to Pilzen, Czechoslovakia where the unit supervised German prisoners to help clean up debris from bombings.
Decorations and Citations: EAME Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars; Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart (Wounded at Omaha Beach and Vossnack, Germany), Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal, Honored by 26th Congressional District as Distinguished Veteran 2012.
Honored by the Stanford House in Gainesville, TX for 75th anniversary of D-Day.
