34th New York Infantry monument at Antietam National Battlefield
The Herkimer Regiment consisted of 1,016 men. Of these, 93 were killed in action or died of wounds and 69 died from other causes. It saw heavy action including the Battles of Ball’s Bluff, Yorktown, Fair Oaks, Seven Day’s, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville.
