Awards:The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Robert L Abbott, Corporal, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action at Chateau- Thierry, France, May 31 to June 4, 1918. Wounded in the hand by a bursting shell, he voluntarily drove a motorcycle, carrying messages and information to and from French and other headquarters. He was without sleep for 36 hours and constantly passed through hostile machine-gun and shell fire.
