What is the event about?
Part of the mission of the Texas Veterans Hall of Fame is to honor all Texans on an individual basis. We do this through “Our Remember Them Forever project”, where we search cemeteries for graves of veterans. Once we locate a cemetery with veterans graves, we mark them with a special marker. On the back the marker, we place a QR code that points to a profile of that veteran.
We found this cemetery with two veterans buried in it. We also realized that the cemetery was in need of cleaning. It has 29 graves. We also discovered that the area was an encampment for homeless. This compounds the issue with keeping the cemetery clean. So, through our partners, we will be cleaning up the cemetery and removing the underbrush to help in preventing homeless encampments. These encampments create a safety and security problem for the community.
In addition to the cleanup, we will be hosting a community stand down to solicit needed items for the homeless shelter and Our Daily Bread.

What exactly will the cleanup consist of ?
We will cleanup the cemetery and remove all the underbrush and dead trees. We will have a chipper, so we can chip and save the shavings as mulch.
How old is the cemetery?
From what records we have, there is one person buried there in 1878. It appears to be a family cemetery named after Mr. JN Page. It is at least 146 years old. We will also petition the State Historical Society to make it a historic site.
